At the beginning of the 20th century, tuberculose (TBC) was a dangerous, infectious disease wich killed a lot of people. There was no medicines against this disease and to prevent it from spreading, patients were kept in isolation. The disease often had fatal consequences and was hardly treatable. The only possible treatment was rest, eating well and lots of fresh air. Since then there has been a sanatorium cottage for TBC-patients in the garden of the monastery in Wittem. The simple, wooden cottage could rotate to let patients benefit from as much sun, light and air as possible and to keep the entrance out of the wind.

This cottage and its history have inspired Leenders/Rameckers into making the work 'To Be Close' #1

Begin 20ste eeuw was tuberculose (TBC) een gevaarlijke besmettelijke ziekte waar veel mensen aan stierven. Er bestonden toen nog geen medicijnen tegen deze ziekte en om verspreiding te voorkomen werden de patiënten geïsoleerd. De ziekte had vaak een fatale afloop en was eigenlijk nauwelijks te behandelen. de enige mogelijke behandeling was rust, goed eten en veel zuivere lucht. Sinds die tijd staat er in de tuin van het klooster van Wittem een sanatoriumhuisje voor TBC`patiënten. Het eenvoudige houten huisje was draaibaar om de patiënt zoveel mogelijk van zon, licht en lucht te kunnen laten profiteren en de ingang uit de wind te kunnen houden.

Dit huisje met zijn historie heeft Leenders/Rameckers geïnspireerd voor het het maken van de istallatie 'To Be Close' #1

A glass container/viewing box in which the end result of collaboration between the 2 artists becomes visible; colored trees and forbidden fruits. This is the 2nd project by photographer Pascale Leenders and visual artist Han Rameckers in wich they searched for a symbiosis in which her photos and his work reinforce each other, without losing autonomy.

Een glazen container/kijkkast waarin het eindresultaat van samenwerking tussen de 2 kunstenaars zichtbaar wordt; gekleurde bomen en verboden vruchten. Dit is het 2e project van fotografe Pascale Leenders en beeldend kunstenaar Han Rameckers waarin zij zochten naar een symbiose waarin haar foto's en zijn werk elkaar versterken, zonder autonomie te verliezen.
